Loving this artist’s work!!!

Mihály Kolodko is a Ukrainian citizen with Hungarian roots.

He is the artist that makes mini statues that are all over the city. They are so fun to look for.

The artist began creating his miniature sculptures in 2010. They are usually not much bigger than a clenched fist. Some of them- you really have to search for.

The mini bronze sculptures keep appearing throughout the city of Budapest. Each piece of art has its own story. Some just make you happy to find, others depict historic people and others are political. We would find them, then do a little research to figure out the backstory.

Maddux Graduates!

What an amazing day and an incredible accomplishment. Maddux has been through it!!!! He started his educational journey at a hippie school in Manhattan Beach, California. It was a magical place perfectly suited for him. He could play in the mud all day, swing on swings, do art projects and ride bikes. He then went on to more traditional school settings that were pretty rough for him, but he persevered. At 17 years old, he decided to stay back in Salzburg to live on his own and finish the IB program at SALIS high school. He moved into his own apartment near the Salzach River. He ran into many roadblocks along the way, but never gave up. We could not be more proud of him. He is truly an exceptional human. We Love you so much!

Maizy and Dottie in the Alm

We were having a heatwave in Salzburg! Our girls were so hot we had to cool them off in the canal. Dottie was ok with it, Maizy – not so much. Once they got out, they were relaxed and watched people float by.

Alm Canal. Salzburg

Water was absolutely freezing but so much fun. When you jump in – it slaps you in the face. You gradually get used to it and when you get out, your body and mind feel amazing. But it can also go terribly wrong. Watch the right ways to use a tree swing and then me. 😆

I hit my face and my stomach and was mildly concussed. But onward and upward! I have more stupid shit to do!!! 😆

Let’s do this!!!

(Please excuse these first few posts. I haven’t done this in awhile and the new fangled technology is really throwing me for a loop! 😬🤣)

The first marschmadness in 2013 was was more about backpacking, hostels, taking the cheapest mode of transportation to get around and sleeping with cockroaches. marschmadness2 will be more about airbnbs, driving and biking around to see incredible sights!

The Journey Begins!!!

We packed up some stuff and donated a ton. It feels so freeing to purge. I highly recommend it.

I would Love to make a list of our beautiful friends in the UK and thank them for being so wonderful but I’d be afraid to accidentally leave someone out. You know who you are and we Love you immensely!

We packed up the car. Jesse bought a used roof box for the paddle boards and extra stuff we didn’t want jam packed in with us.  We left Harrogate (near Leeds) and started our drive to Salzburg. It is a 1,002 mile (1614 km) journey with a short ferry ride from Dover, England to Calais, France as well. Maizy and Dottie had to stay in the car for the 1 1/2 hour ferry trip. They slept. We stopped in Heidelberg for a little break which is a good thing to do from time to time. Powering through is absolutely possible but can sometimes ends in fighting 😆.

We stayed with Franky and Eva Schiemer for a fun night in a town outside of Salzburg in Austria (had a great time. They are so very special. I call them our little brother and sister). Then we drove to Maddux’s apartment on the Salzach River. Fun fact: it’s source is the Kitzbühel Alps.

We’re back!!! Almost 10 years to the date!

I last posted on July 16, 2013. It seems like we’ve lived many lifetimes since then! At that time, our kids were 5, 9 and 11. We had recently left Montreal and wanted to go on an adventure. We set off for a couple months which turned into 6 months and 32 countries. All on the cheap, but the experiences were priceless.

Life is a rollercoaster ride and it has taken us on a corkscrew turn right now. All 3 kids have some time off, Jesse is currently not working and I’m up for an adventure! Maizy & Dottie (our two pugs) are also along for the ride.

We left the UK and have embarked on a long road trip starting in Salzburg, Austria. We will end up in Italy. If you want to see what we’re doing, please feel free to take a look. If not, continue on your own journey and make it a good, positive, happy one!
