Aren’t they all so beautiful? These kids were so excited to see other kids. The trek is roughly 5-6 hours through the jungle, so it’s not very easy to get to some of the villages. Em, maddux and lennon rocked it! Lennon was the leader with an incredible guy named Sue. Sue was small but strong and the boys had a great time with him. When we got to the village, everyone stayed separated for a few minutes, then Lennon started playing peek-a-boo with some kids while Maddux put on his comedy routine. Everyone was laughing.

Wow! New kids in the village!
“There are no strangers, only friends who have not met yet.” -Yeats
Today I met a friend named Edgar. We started talking while at a community pool in Luang Prabang. His life story is incredible. When I told him that I want an amazing life story, too, he said ” it is so easy!” He is so positive and seems to have made wildly challenging situations into a wonderful life. He has been traveling since November and gave us recommendations of places to stay in Vietnam and Myanmar. He was in the army in Vietnam during the war and said going back was great. He enjoyed the people, the food, the beaches… I had such a fun day talking to him while the kids swam and Jesse went and got a well deserved massage. We are still recovering from our trekking and kayaking trip! Happy Birthday to you, Edgar! Shine on! Thanks again for the stellar company (I am so thankful our paths crossed and “the gears matched up.”) If we ever get to Alaska- I’ll give you a ring! Safe travels home.
UNO with Michael!

Our buddy from our Chicago days happens to be working in Bangkok now. The first night we got in, we met up with him and all Lennon could talk about was playing a game of UNO with Micheal. Mission accomplished. We played while having some drinks and listening to a band that was like a Saturday Night Live skit about lounge singers. It was great! He also took us to Terminal 21, which is an amazing food court where you can get whatever you want for incredibly cheap and the food is so good! Fruitshakes, noodle soups, curry. Everything is so fresh, spicy and healthy.
Here’s a good spot to honor Buddha

This little altar was in a pretty gnarly hotel in the stairwell. There was a cutout area in the wall where someone set up a shrine to Buddha. Sometimes people left food and other offerings during the day. (Trang, Thailand)
We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day

We may not celebrate Valentine’s Day, but we couldn’t pass up the photo opportunity of being in a big obnoxious twinkly heart. (Trang, Thailand)
Chinese New Year

The decorations for Chinese New Year were beautiful. We were in Koh Lipe on the eve of the new year and the fireworks went off for a very long time. In Trang, on Valentine’s Day, they were working on taking everything down. I love all the lanterns.
Tuk Tuks

A tuk tuk is like a motorcycle or three wheeler rickshaw type taxi thing. The back or side can be small or almost as big as a pickup truck to hold people. We just saw one today that was packed with so many people that all you could see were some arms, legs and backpacks smushed up. We rode on one in Koh Lanta that was built on the side of a motorcycle. I was in the very front. Usually, I love this stuff because it goes so fast and it’s loud and windy. On this one, however, the little rickety thing was weighed down heavy with our bags and I kept thinking that if a tire pops, I’m going to be the first one flung into a tree! Some of the drivers bedazzle the heck out of these things- from killer sound systems, to flashing lights and disco balls. (Trang, Thailand)
We are killin’ fruit shakes all over Southeast Asia!

The fruitshakes here are insanely good and inexpensive. We have them every day, but sometimes you just can’t beat an ice cold bottle of soda! Cheers! (Trang, Thailand)
I know this is weird, but…

I have always wanted a little dog who’s tongue hangs out all the time. I don’t know what it is, but I think it’s the cutest thing. I saw this dog at a market and got a little crazy trying to get the camera out to take a picture. Someday…. 🙂
