Sagrada Familia- Gaudi’s attention to detail was insane!

If you are into art, math, nature and architecture- you would love it here. Gaudi put them all together beautifully. His use of arches is remarkable. Here is an excerpt about hyperbolas that I found on a website describing his thought process: “The hyperbola is a curve created when we slice a double cone vertically. This type of curve is used in the interior of the Sagrada Familia. The curves create fairly high vaults, and in the main church Gaudi used this to create pillars that resemble the structure of a tree complete with branched tree trunks.”

“The idea of waiting for something makes it more exciting.” – andy warhol

La Sagrada Família is indescribable. When you stand beneath it and look up- it towers over you and makes you a bit dizzy. After more than 100 years, it’s still under construction. It is estimated that it will be completed sometime between 2020 and 2040.
The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família (Expiatory Temple of the Holy Family) was an obsession for the architect Antoni Gaudí. Gaudi’s passions were architecture, nature and religion so this cathedral would be his masterpiece! A conservative society commissioned the work in the hopes that this temple would serve as atonement for the city’s sins of modernization including wealth and greed. To Gaudí, it was a holy mission.
The photos were taken while waiting in line for a bit over an hour. The other photo was taken right at the entrance.

The French Riviera (Cote d’ Azur)

The Côte d’Azur is the Mediterranean coastline of the southeast corner of France. I have never seen water this beautiful- so many brilliant shades of blue! Jesse really wanted to go swimming, but the water was freezing! Afterwards, I was glad I jumped in, too. It was very ‘refreshing.’ It helped keep us alert for the ride to Barcelona!

Art in Nice, France…. Brilliant!

Some people think they are Buddhas, some think they are guys just resting. Some find them brilliant, some find them ugly. I LOVE them! The seven characters represent the seven continents and the communication between the different communities of today’s society. The name of this creation is “Conversation à Nice” and the artist is Jaume Plensa. The statues light up every night and their colors change smoothly. The effect emulates a beautiful, peaceful dialogue (conversation) between them all.

Monte Carlo was a beautiful place to pass through

There are pictures of Princess Grace scattered around the city. Grace Kelly was an American actress who married the Prince of Monaco (Rainier III) in 1956 to become “Her Serene Highness The Princess of Monaco.”
