Emerson has survived a dog bite, walking through a spider web and having a nickel sized spider sitting on her forehead, stepping in a dollop of human poop and a leech attack. “What doesn’t kill you – makes you stronger!”

Learning survival techniques- edible plants in the jungle

These leaves were sour, but the kids liked them. Our guide also told us about drinking water which is found in the trunks of banana trees. A few years back, a German couple was lost for about a week in the jungle after they went off the path. They survived on things that were safe to eat and drink. Moral of the story- stay on the path in the middle of an unfamiliar jungle!
The One Thousand Year Old Tree
I asked how they know how old this tree is and our guide said that they have no idea- that’s just the name of the tree! That’s funny.
Prehistoric Man Cave
The remains of prehistoric man (dating back 7,500 years) were discovered in here. Our guide said that groups of families would live throughout the cave. Snail shells lined the entrance to the cave which made scientists think that perhaps at some point, the ocean was that high, but it was later discovered that the cavemen ate snails they found in the jungle, then put the snail shells at the front of the cave. If any intruder came close, they’d be able to hear the shells being scratched at or stepped on.
