I loved this guy’s t-shirt.

I’ve always believed this, but definitely know it is true now with all the different languages we encounter- smiling and laughing are two of the most powerful things in the world! You can make fun of me and call me a cheeseball if you must, but it is true! :)
Making Friends
I have been told that I talk incessantly, but it looks like other people must talk a lot, too, because there are friends being made left and right on our journey. We’ve met new people from Hong Kong, Scotland, Saudi Arabia, Kuala Lumpur, British Columbia, Chang Mai, Nova Scotia, Halifax, the Netherlands and Singapore.
Lennon met a boy named Rudy (pictured) from Scotland and Jesse was talking to a super nice guy from Saudi Arabia.
Next stop… Penang
After a cray-cray (I stold that from my friend Elizabeth) bus trip we finally arrived in Penang. We got on a bus around 11 that was supposed to leave at 10:20. Twenty minutes into the journey – some one gets on at the front of the bus shoo-ing us off and yelling “Penang, off!” “Go yellow.” What!? We went to a place where people were on walkie talkies and had lots of money that they were waving around. Jesse said “penang.” They pointed to an area for us to wait. We waited for about ten minutes, took our packs off and all of a sudden people start yelling “Penang, Penang!” at us and pointing at us to go to a bus around the corner. Basically, this same scenario happened two or three more times. One time, the kids and I had to go to the bathroom. Bus driver held up two fingers signifying two minutes. We ran like crazy, people are yelling everywhere. It’s like no one has a volume control. We get to the toilets and the guy says we need to pay him. We run back to the bus to get money from Jesse and run back to the restroom. Guy says it’s not enough but waves his arm to go in anyway. Yay!
When we finally get to our apartment, we go right to a green algae laden pool and find this sign:
Oops! Getting a bit out of order here.

These were taken at a beach in Singapore (Sentosa)
I felt like Jimmy Buffett at this beach after I blew out my flip-flops. I know- that is a horrible joke, but I’m sitting under a palm tree listening to Imagine by John Lennon and laughing out loud by myself. Life is real good right now! (And it is true- those flip flops are no longer on our journey.)
Yvonne-you would freak out over the lanterns that are everywhere in celebration of the Chinese New Year!
If you’re out there, Kana, thanks again for all the kindness you showed us! We truly thank you and enjoyed KL so much more because of you. Have a wonderful wedding and keep in touch!
Beautiful.
Swimming Hole in KL & Hike to Waterfall
Khana took us to a waterfall/swimming hole area that was fun to see. Kids must flock their after school on their motorbikes. While we were hiking back to it, we saw lots of monkeys. One had her little baby on her back and there were two younger ones that were small but definitely holding their own! At a zoo in Hong Kong we sat for quite a few minutes watching a young monkey negotiate with his mom to let him climb higher on the fence. She wasn’t having it and kept pulling at his legs and tail. He wouldn’t give up and finally made it pretty close to the top. She turned her back on him- she was not happy, but then a few moments later she scurried up the fence, grabbed him, made him hug on to her stomach and they were safely on a tree next to dad in no time. I guess parenting can be a challenge at times for monkeys, too!
